Choosing to be a Solopreneur is amazing—freedom, flexibility, building something that’s all yours. But it can also feel lonely at times, right?
It's just you after the meeting ends, or you send out that proposal. So, how do you keep moving forward without feeling like you are on an island?
I was wrapping up a project for a client a few months ago. I enjoyed the financial results. I should’ve felt on top of the world, but I felt...empty.
There was no one to high-five or bounce the next big idea off of. That’s when I realized that connection isn’t optional; it’s essential. And I know I’m not the only one who’s felt this way.
That’s why I want to discuss how we can change that—how you can build meaningful connections in 2025 that will make your business (and life) richer and more rewarding.
Why Connections Matter for Solopreneurs
1. Shared Knowledge and Insight
We all know how valuable a single piece of advice can be. Whether it’s discovering a time-saving tool or hearing how someone else solved a problem you’re facing, shared knowledge is a game-changer.
2. Emotional Support
Let’s call it what it is—solopreneurship can be tough. Having someone who understands the highs and lows of your journey can make a huge difference. They can remind you that you’re not alone in this.
3. Opportunities for Collaboration
Great things happen when we work together. Collaboration opens doors you might not have seen otherwise, whether it’s a new partnership, a referral, or simply brainstorming with someone who sees things differently.
How SoloGrit Helps You Build Stronger Connections
At SoloGrit, everything we’ve built is about helping you feel supported. Here’s how you can tap into it in 2025:
1. The SoloGrit Lunch Club
This weekly program pairs you with another solopreneur for a virtual chat. It’s a low-pressure way to share ideas, swap tips, and build meaningful relationships.
2. Livestream Events and Co-Working Sessions
These events are a mix of learning and connection. You can drop in and tackle questions and tasks alongside peers, share what’s working for you, and get inspired by what’s working for others.
3. Weekly GRIT Guide Challenges
These guides offer actionable steps to help you grow. They’re also great for sparking conversations with peers who are tackling the same challenges.
4. Peer Feedback Spaces
Sometimes you need a second opinion or just a little encouragement. In our Coffee Chat and Happy Hour discussions, you ask questions, share wins, and get support whenever needed.
Tips for Building Stronger Connections in 2025
1. Show Up Consistently
Relationships don’t happen overnight. Start small by attending one SoloGrit Lunch Club chat or posting weekly in the Discussions spaces.
The more you show up, the easier it becomes to build genuine connections. One member recently shared that showing up weekly led to a solid referral immediately after joining.
2. Be Authentic
Drop the polished persona and just be you. Share the struggles and wins.
For example, if you’ve been wrestling with a tricky client situation, talk about it. When others see your realness, they feel more comfortable opening up, too.
Authenticity builds trust.
3. Focus on Giving First
When you meet someone new, think about how you can help them. Maybe you share a resource, make an introduction, or simply listen.
A fellow solopreneur recently told me how offering to review someone’s pitch deck led to a collaborative project months later.
Giving builds a strong foundation for relationships.
4. Leverage Technology
Use tools like SoloGrit’s Lunch Club and Discussion spaces to simplify your networking efforts. Outside SoloGrit, tools like LinkedIn can help you keep those connections alive.
For example, one member uses LinkedIn to share quick updates after a Lunch Club chat, ensuring they stay top of mind.
5. Follow Up
After a great conversation, don’t just let it fade away. Send a quick message thanking the person for their time and mentioning something you enjoyed or learned. Following up turns casual chats into long-term relationships.
This year, one solopreneur shared how a simple follow-up email after an introduction call turned a one-off conversation into a mentorship.
6. Track and Reflect
Keep track of your interactions. Jot down who you spoke to, what you discussed, and any follow-ups you promised.
Reflect monthly: What connections added the most value? Who do you want to reconnect with?
Tracking helps you stay intentional about your relationships.
Step 1: Identify Your Connection Goals
Step 2: Plan Your Engagement
Step 3: Track Your Follow-Ups
Step 4: Reflect on Your Progress
