Before I started SoloGrit, I asked a lot of people during networking discussions what they believed was the key to business success. Interestingly, while many spoke about having specific expertise, there was a common theme that kept coming up again and again—success wasn’t just about being an expert; it was about having grit.
Grit was the secret sauce.
The ability to push through challenges, adapt, and keep moving forward.
That resonated with me because that’s exactly what SoloGrit is built on: Growth, Resilience, Integrity, and being Teachable.
However, grit alone isn’t enough if you’re focusing on the wrong idea or market. That’s why validating your niche before you fully commit is crucial. A great idea is only great if there’s a market demand for it.
In this Grit Guide, I’m going to share how you can use modern AI tools and strategies to validate your niche and set your business up for long-term success.
Before you can validate your niche, you need to define it. What is your idea? Maybe you’ve noticed a gap in the market, or maybe you have a skill that others seem to struggle with. Whatever it is, make sure you’ve articulated your niche clearly.
For example:
Your niche is your hypothesis—it’s what you believe will resonate with your target market. But we’re not stopping here.
The key is to validate it before you invest time and energy. That’s where AI tools come in.
Here’s where the magic happens. AI tools can help you determine if there’s real demand for your idea, saving you from spending months chasing something that might not work.
Let's cover a few that are easy to use and provide immediate insight.
ExplodingTopics.com
If you want to catch a trend before it goes mainstream, Exploding Topics is your go-to tool. It uses AI to scan billions of data points from search trends, social mentions, and online articles to find topics that are gaining traction. This allows you to see if there’s growing interest in your niche.
For example, if you’re thinking about launching a business focused on AI automation for solopreneurs, Exploding Topics can show you if AI tools are becoming more popular with your target audience. It gives you real-time data to validate your niche before you dive in.

OpenAI ChatGPT
I’ve been using ChatGPT for almost everything—including market research. It’s like having a research assistant that never sleeps. You can ask ChatGPT specific questions to generate insights, discover pain points, and get a better understanding of what your target audience needs.
For example, ask ChatGPT:
It will give you a deep dive into your niche and provide valuable insights into what’s trending and where gaps exist in the market.

3. Glimpse
MeetGlimpse.com
Glimpse is another great tool that leverages AI to help you spot up-and-coming trends. It analyzes platforms like Reddit and ecommerce data to find emerging products and services that could become the next big thing.
For example, if your niche involves offering AI tools for content creators, Glimpse can help you discover rising trends in that space before they hit the mainstream. This gives you a competitive edge in identifying niche opportunities.

Now that you’ve used AI tools to validate market demand, it’s time to organize your findings and ensure your niche has long-term potential.
One of the best ways to do this is by creating a simple validation worksheet to assess your niche’s profitability.
Let's break apart the 5 steps for a foundational Niche Validation Worksheet:
Write down the key problems or needs that your target audience has. Use the insights you gathered from AI tools like ChatGPT or Glimpse.
Example: Solopreneurs struggle to manage content creation efficiently, which takes up a significant portion of their time.
Using the data from Exploding Topics or Glimpse, assess whether there is demand for solutions related to this problem. Make sure the trend is growing rather than declining.
Example: Exploding Topics shows that the demand for AI-powered content tools is growing rapidly among solopreneurs.
List out your competitors. Research what solutions they’re offering and what’s working for them. Use AI tools like ChatGPT to simulate competitor analysis.
Example: Existing AI tools are either too expensive for solopreneurs or require too much technical knowledge to use effectively.
Define how your product or service solves the problem in a way that stands out from the competition.
Example: An affordable AI-driven tool that automates content creation and posting, designed specifically for solopreneurs with minimal technical knowledge.
Think about how you’ll monetize your niche. Will it be a one-time purchase, subscription-based, or service-oriented? Write down your plan to make sure the financial aspect of your niche is solid.
Validating your niche is the most important step you can take as a solopreneur. It saves you from wasting time and energy on ideas that won’t take off, and it ensures you’re building a business that people actually want and need.
So, here’s today's challenge:
Take one of the AI tools I mentioned and start validating your niche today.
Whether you’re just starting out or pivoting to something new, the right research can set you up for long-term success.
Remember, validation isn’t a one-time thing—it’s an ongoing process. Keep checking trends, stay in tune with your audience, and make adjustments as needed.
The more you learn, the better equipped you’ll be to grow your business in a profitable direction.
